The Pawsitive Life Foundation is a nonprofit organization with the mission to save dogs and train them to enrich and save the lives of people. We train dogs that would otherwise be euthanized to provide early cancer detection in humans as well as provide therapy and service dog assistance for those in need. Pawsitive Life rescues abandoned or homeless dogs and gives them a second chance to pawsitively impact a person’s life. We train dogs to successfully detect the presence of cancer in humans.There is no better reward than to save a dog to save a life.

A dog’s nose always knows that cancer stinks!

Any breed of dog can successfully be trained to “sniff” for cancer. We teach this highly effective skill by training dogs to identify a very distinctive scent, or biochemical marker, that is emitted by the human body when cancer is present. A dogs sense of smell is so keen and accurate that they can identify the chemical traces of cancer in the range of parts per trillion. (Equivalent to being able to detect a drop of blood in an Olympic sized swimming pool) This means that a dog can detect cancer in a human months before it will show up on any current medical test we have today. Early cancer detection is the key to survival. Dogs can learn to accurately distinguish the difference between the breath samples of cancer patients from those of cancer free individuals. Imagine going to your doctor for your yearly check-up and simply breathing into a special tube, which is then screened by a trained Pawsitive Life cancer detection dog to analyze it for the presence of chemical traces of cancer. The Pawsitive Life Foundation also offers Therapy and Service dogs at little or no cost to those in need. Our dogs offer comfort, aid and support to military veterans, children with terminal illnesses, and individuals that rely on a dog to be their ears, eyes, and means to function on a daily basis. Pawsitive Life provides trained psychological service dogs for those individuals dealing with trauma, anxiety, and depression so that they may live whole and complete lives with the support of their animal companions.
